The writers' strike continues with no end in sight. God help us. This could also mean no award shows to poke fun at. In the wake of all this, books are my new friends. Before it was an "Oprah pick," I was leafing through Eat, Pray, Love at Barnes & Noble. When things began looking bleak for the strike, I bought it. And if you think that people mostly read what Oprah tells them to, you're right. The day I was there, one woman after another was buying that very book.
At any rate, it's pretty good. Elizabeth Gilbert is clearly privileged to have been able to take months off to trek around Italy, India and Indonesia. They're not the places I'd have chosen, but still. She gives a personal and sometimes mouthwatering account of each country. Once I got past the jealousy, it was a good read and a good reminder to seek pleasure and know you deserve it.

Thought for Today
I never want to see anyone, and I never want to go anywhere or do anything. I just want to write. -- P.G. Wodehouse
I'm a writer/editor who loves pop culture and hates human suffering. I also hate exclamation points, but may have to use them in this medium to convey my occasional enthusiasm.
